The viscous gas ring as an astrophysical test problem for a viscous SPH-code
نویسنده
چکیده
We present the general analytic solution of a viscous gas ring around a central mass. This solution is used to test a further development of the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) algorithm, which is capable of simulating problems with physical viscosity (here: with kinematic viscosity). We discuss some SPH simulation results and conclude some fundamental properties of the algorithm. c © 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Parallel SPH on CrayT 3 E and NECSX - 4 using DTS ?
In this paper we report on the results of a joint eeort of astrophysicists and computer scientists to develop and implement a parallel program that enables us to solve large systems of hydrodynamic equations and covers a wide range of applications in astrophysics. We introduce the Distributed Threads System (DTS) as an environment for the development of portable parallel applications. The numer...
متن کاملAccelerating high-order WENO schemes using two heterogeneous GPUs
A double-GPU code is developed to accelerate WENO schemes. The test problem is a compressible viscous flow. The convective terms are discretized using third- to ninth-order WENO schemes and the viscous terms are discretized by the standard fourth-order central scheme. The code written in CUDA programming language is developed by modifying a single-GPU code. The OpenMP library is used for parall...
متن کاملSPH Simulations of Accretion Disks and Narrow Rings
We model a massless viscous disk using Smoothed Particle Hydro-dynamics (SPH) and note that it evolves according to the Lynden-Bell & Pringle theory (1974) until a non-axisymmetric instability develops at the inner edge of the disk. This instability may have the same origin as the instability of initially axisymmetric viscous disks discussed by Lyubarskij et al. (1994). To clarify the evolution...
متن کاملAn alternative approach to viscosity in an accretion disc
Purely hydrodynamic numerical experiments into the evolution of astrophysical discs typically include some sort of viscosity in order to cause accretion. In this paper, we demonstrate an alternative method of implementing viscous forces, with extremely good angular momentum conservation properties. The method is based on altering the cell fluxes, rather than incorporating a viscous force. We te...
متن کاملPhysical viscosity in smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulations of galaxy clusters
Most hydrodynamical simulations of galaxy cluster formation carried out to date have tried to model the cosmic gas as an ideal, inviscid fluid, where only a small amount of (unwanted) numerical viscosity is present, arising from practical limitations of the numerical method employed, and with a strength that depends on numerical resolution. However, the physical viscosity of the gas in hot gala...
